Overview-

The new RAZR X irons is Callaway’s new flagship.  Introduced for the 2011′ season, the leader in technology vowed to provide an iron to the masses that would deliver in distance and forgiveness with a wide-sole, with retaining playability and turf interaction of a thin-sole.  Team Callaway made this monumental task look easy.

Technology-

To accomplish this great feat of combining the big 3 (distance, forgiveness, and feel), Callaway  shifted 30 grams to the rear of the club, significantly lowering the CG (Center of Gravity), making this model 12% lower and 15% deeper than the X22 from the previous year!

By lowering the CG, Callaway took away the undercut of the heel and the toe areas subsequently raised the MOI (Moment of Inertia), improving ball speed on less than desirable strikes.

Actual Player Feedback-

“Produces a high ball flight, but not too high”

“An extremely forgiving iron”

“It has a rebel-like look in the bag, but it is pleasing at address”

[review pros=”This iron will definitely do well for the average player looking for more distance and playability.  The lower CG will be a good fit for golfers looking to get their irons airborne quicker to get more distance.” cons=”This one seems to have that built up Callaway look that will not fair well with better players.  But then again, it’s not made for the lower handicapper, it’s made for golfers looking for game-improvement (bordering on super game-improvement) iron.  Also, I would have liked to see more of a shaft selection. ” score=99.2]

Summary-

The new Callaway RAZR X irons will do well and for good reason.  They are a game-improvement iron that has earned a Gold rating in Golf Digest Hot List for 2011 irons.   This is another GI iron that not only deliver quality but also performance.  The low CG coupled with a high MOI will sit well for the average player looking for a boost.
