Overview-
TaylorMade has become synonymous with high tech, quality golf equipment. They have arguably been the largest presence in the golf manufacturer arena in the past decade. The new TaylorMade R11 is without a question, another stellar driver, slated for 2/4/2011 release.
Technology-
The movable weights of the trailblazer R7 coupled with the adjustable hosel from the R9, has been joined… TM raised it one. The rotating sole plate is what separates the men from the boys. The role of the sole plate is to independently changes the driver face angle by as much as 48 settings! The end result? The adjustments in the loft and lie from the hosel do not affect the appearance at address.
The driver definitely touts a new look: a satin white finish, along with the black face. This creates an appreciable contrast between face and crown to help you align the club more easily. The white finish is also meant to reduce “hot spots,” a common byproduct is glare. It’s definitely a nice, nice looking driver by all standards.

Player Feedback-
“It’s ahead of the curve visually. They tried something different and it works….”
“The adjustibility is complex but not complicated. The soleplate is idiot-proof”
“It’s easy to work this club any way I want, and the distance is superb”

[review pros=”Distance is ultimate goal with the R11 and by adjusting the driver to the player swing with advanced technology at the forefront. Even though this has become standard with the massively marketed drivers, the R11 comes with a good many custom shaft options including the Fujikura Motore, Aldila VooDoo, Matrix, and more!” cons=”Even with the launch adjustments, this driver is still geared for the better player.” score=99.7]
Summary-
It looks like TaylorMade has delivered big time with the new R11 driver. The customized approach to driver is here to stay. The movable weights, adjustable hosel, and rotating sole plate has all but confirmed TaylorMade’s approach to the game – deliver a quality product with an emphasis on staying ahead of the competition when it comes to technology. The new TaylorMade R11 makes good in all of these categories. It’s still early in the game so keep this page bookmarked and we will give you latest on the review.
Tried the R11 on a driving range. Was very disappointed !!! It had a 60g Fujikura shaft stiff in, it actually felt like a regular shaft. Could not control the driver even when settings were adjusted. I then tried the Titleist 910 driver also with adjustable settings. What a pleasure. Shaft was 60g stiff Aldilla RIP. Beautifull feeling off the driver face. Titleist is the leader in golf equipment, and will stay the leader !!!!
Interesting Waldo. I have heard a lot of rave on the R11… it just goes to show ever golfer is unique when it comes to preferences. Maybe it was the shaft?
But I have also heard a lot of great things about the 910 that mirrors your sediment here.
Anyway, thanks for sharing.
Dan
Waldo. Shaft and swing issues aside, statistics show titleist is way behind. The ball is number 1 but rest of tech fails miserably. Taylomade makes 3 drivers better than titleist not including r11
Never liked Titleist products….they are behind….and about to lose #1 ball honors as well. Taylor Made is a great product.
Went to the Belfry today to have a club fitting for a new driver.Tried a few including the Titleist 910D3 but settled for the R11. Nice looking, easy to hit and Oh!so adjustable, as you swing changes so will this club.£299 well spent, but be fitted properly before you buy to get the best option for your money.Would highly recommend the Belfry fitting centre.
Thanks Roger, I doubt you’ll go wrong with that choice!
Let us know how your new driver works out.
I just purchased the R11 and I am looking forward to getting out on the range with it. But I am not sure I made the right choice with the shaft stiffness. My swing speed is 95-100 mph and it was suggested by Golfsmith to go with the Regular flex. I’ve been hitting a R flex and the head seems to move around a lot.
Thoughts?
Jay,
Same thing happened to me, in fact our swing speeds are very similar. IMHO, if you are in a gray area, and results are not definitive one way or another, I opt for the personal choice and what feels right to me.
This is only my opinion, maybe others have input?
Dan
I took a chance on the R11 when I already had an R9 that I hit very well; but the R11 earned it’s way into the bag on the first showing. Longer, straighter, with a great feel and sound. The white head is pretty cool, it’s easy to see coming through the impact zone. May not be everyone’s best choice, but the R11 has got my vote!
Now for the R11 fairway wood, saving my dollars.
Snapped the shaft of my ol’ trusty R510, so decided it was time to switch to a new driver.
Went down between the R11 and the 910D3, aside from differences in shafts, a Blur TP65 and a Ozik HD-6, the differences was minute.
910D3
Pros: Love the more classical shaped head, adjusted to sit slightly open at address, and felt responsive.
Hit it around 250-260 meters on swing monitors, around 10.5 launch, 2600rpm and 150-155 mph ball speed.
Cons: Fitting reference chart a little tricky to maneuver, tougher to deloft the club for an open setup, only sits bout 0.5 to 1 degree (by sight) open.
R11
Pros: Love the white finish, I don’t wear sunnies because I cannot wear contacts due to extremely high astigmatisme, so I really appreciate the matte finish.
Sits more open than the 910D3, so brownies here.
Averaged similar numbers to the 910D3, only lower spin at 2400 rpm averaged.
Cons: Felt dead, solid shots and slightly off center shots almost not differentiable by feel (probably shaft issue?)
Went on to get the R11 thanks to the matte white, but didn’t go with the tp shaft, went on to skimp on it and got it with the stock Blur 60 stiff, kinda regretted on that lol but performs very very well apart from being a little dead on the feel.
I rearly ever get excited about golf clubs, but the R11 TP was one that got me going. I try to read all that I can before I go and buy my clubs and it seems the verdict is out on the R11. Top class! I went to my local club shop and spent a few hours trying all the “so-called” top drivers and without a doubt the R11 TP was the best (For me)! The feel..the look..the result all added up to my drive increasing 15+ yards. The saying goes, “It’s not the club, it’s the guy swinging it”…well for this 12 handicapper, it’s the club!
