Overview/Technology-
CG is the name of the game for the new Cobra S9-1 Driver. The all titanium driver has been downsized to take advantage of each loft. In addition to the optimized CG, rather dramatic changes have been made from last year’s model such as slightly narrower face and less crown surface area. The weight has been reduced by almost 6 grams to increase club-head speed – this to me is a biggie. I am an advocate on stripping unnecessary weight to increase club-head speed. This is the name of the game to gain additional yardage, for maximum effect.
Other notables for the Cobra S9-1 is the new Hotter 9 Points technology to further increase clubface efficiency. What is this? It’s the design of the driver to maximize COR using a Dual Rhombas insert to promote higher ball speed and a more consistent ball flight across the entire club face.

Comes in three different models (excluding the S9-1 Pro): S9-1 M for swing speeds of 87-108 and ball speeds of 125-155, S9-F for swing speeds of 97 or less and ball speeds of 140 or less and finally the S9-M (offset) for swing speeds of 97 or less and ball speeds of 140 or less.

Pros/Positives-
Absolutely great looking driver. Cobra has always come out with stellar drivers and this one is no exception. Very high MOI and balanced face makes this one of the straighter drivers on the market today. Excellent custom shaft selection such as Graphite Design, YS-6+ and YS-7+, Aldila DVS, Aldila NV, Grafalloy Prolaunch, Proforce V2, Fujikura Speedax, Rombax, and the Mitsubishi Diaman to name a few.
Cons/Negatives-
Driver is probably more geared for the average player. Lacks lower loft selection (starting at 9.5) unless you go to the Cobra S9-1 Pro model. These are not negatives to the majority of players however…

Overall Rating-
The Cobra S9-1 is definitely a great driver for the average to better than average golfer looking for distance and accuracy. A high launch driver that’s straight and long, this is the general consensus. Made Golf rating in the Golf Digest Driver reviews for 2009′. This is definitely a driver putting on your short list this spring.
I tried it out yesterday, im just and average gofer with a handicap of 22. I had a massive slice but with this driver that wasn’t a problem anymore. Great driver i ended up buying it and would recommend it to anyone !
Went to a golf demo day yesterday with the intent of deciding between the Callaway Ft-IQ and the Nike SQ Dymo2 w/ STR8-Fit. Hit both and liked them but, on a whim tried the Cobra. First of all, loved the look – very traditional shape with a shiny black top and black shaft that evoked confidence and felt super comfortable in my hands. My first three shots were rockets – long and straight – with a great trajectory. Kept hitting it and shot after shot felt wonderful. This driver wasn’t even on my radar screen but I ended up buying it (and the fairway wood also. )
Went to a demo days and hit quite a few drivers. This was by far the best I hit. Would highly recommend this to someone looking to purchase a new driver.
I tried out about a dozen drivers including Ping G10 and Rapture, Titleiest Dcomp and D2, Callaway FT9, Nike, Taylormade Burner and R9, Mizuno Mx 700. Top three for me were the Dcomp, Mizuno and Cobra, also the Rapture was good. The best of the lot though I was the Cobra with Titleist right up there too. At $200 less then the Titleist the choice was a no Brainer. I hit it long and very straight and even miss-hits are decent. The only slight negative is the sound is a bit loud like a CLANK.
S9-1 pro D is a beautiful driver and with the Matrix shaft it is a killer, had been hitting Cobra L4v which is still very good but this new Cobra is the bomb. I got caught up in the R9 drama and it is too stiff in the tip with the sleeve, so please beware if you look at it, (I had both shafts reg and stiff). Thank goodness i tried the S9 pro D, it save me from a long season of bad shots with the R 9.

I’m a 7 handicap and have been hitting the Ping G5 and Taylormade tour burner drivers and have had good success with both drivers but loved the looks of the new Cobra S9-1 so I demo’d it and was hooked. Better sound and feel than both of my old drivers and although distance was about the same (maybe 5 yards longer) the two things I noticed most was that my shot pattern is much better with the Cobra S9-1 and my launch angle was much better giving me more carry yardage. This driver will be staying in my bag for awhile.
I just bought this driver today. I have a bad fade, but this driver is great. I was hitting it further and straighter. I have been looking and hitting every driver you can think of to fimd the one that is for me. Well I found it! This is by far the best driver I have ever hit. If you are in the market for a new driver, this is a great one.
Average driver for the average player, easy to use, the aldila stiff shaft feel a bit too soft, lost alot of distance when compare to the Callaway FT-9 (9degree stiff shaft) and R7 Limited. If you absolutely want a “of the year” not too expensive driver get this Cobra, otherwise the TaylorMade R7 Limited price drop is quite a good offer.
I took my boys to the range today with no intention whatsoever of purchasing a driver. However, after I purchased my tokens I saw this beautiful Cobra S9-1 in the “Used” bin for $135. I traded my drivers license for the driver and took it to the range. The results were unbelievable. I am a bogey golfer because I cannot straighten out my slice out of the tee-box. This driver changed everything. I hit at least 100 balls with it and a full 90% were straight down the middle or slightly left (an actual DRAW!!). I lost no distance, in fact I think I gained a few yards. I traded in my old driver and paid a whopping $95 for a driver that has revolutionized my game. Best deal I have ever made.
I usually shoot in the low 90’s and I was looking for a new driver. I shopped around a lot. Everyone tried to sell me a Burner ‘09, Cleveland, Callaway FT9 or Diabolo. I even took the Burner to play 3 rounds. When I insisted on a draw bias – I have a persistant fade – I got to hit the Cobra S9-1 Offset M Speed. Never before have I felt technology working for me the way this club did. This is truly the best driver to remedy a fade that I have ever hit and I am considering buying a second one to keep in the cupboard to use when my one wears out.
I have a 7 handicap and the Cobra S9-1 Tour model is supreme in my opinion. I shafted it with a VooDoo RSV6 and the club is fine tuned to my swing. The off center hits only suffler slightly in distance loss and the sound is great. My dismal experience with the Callaway fusion driver led me to the Cobra S9-1. In my opinion the Cobra driver is great and worthy of trying. I am tempted to the Taylormade R9 but not yet!
Have had an FT5 for 18 months and hated it. It felt dead and I found my distance was nothing like my previouse ERC driver. I tried the Diablo 10 degree draw and liked it, but the club looked odd to say the least. Tried the new burner and found I was consistently hitting it right, so gave that up as well. I then tried the Yonex nanospeed, which looked fantastic but the stiff shaft did not suit. Finally the pro put the new Cobra S9-1 with the speed shaft in my hands and I haven’t looked back. This club instantly felt right, looked fantastic and gave me great distance with a slight draw, in place of my previous fade. The FT5 robbed me of my confidence, but the Cobra S9-1 has brought it back in spades. I would recommend this driver without reservation!
I purchased the S9-1/10.5 degree offset driver specifically because I have a horrible slice. I played it all summer realizing the if I don’t hit it consistently in the center of the club face, the club was unforgiving. When I hit from the toe, then rightfully so, I hit a slice. Desparately I am now hitting a used Taylor Made R5 driver with 12 degree loft. I’m now hitting straighter and longer drives with this outdated driver and possibly looking to now upgrade to the R9. If anyone has had a similar experience with the Cobra, I’d like to know what you may have done to correct this. Otherwise my next move might be the TM.

I had a very, very similar experience. I was using the exact driver, TM R5 several years ago when I decided to upgrade my driver. Well, I got the Cleveland HiBore, a very popular driver at the time (2 years ago). I found myself struggling with the HiBore. After a few weeks of frustration, I decided to go to a professional clubfitter with the intent to stay with the HiBore with a different shaft. After testing, we noticed the dispersion rate was terrible with the HiBore but very good with a similar driver as the R5, using a Fujikura ZComm Six. I was sold. Stick with an outdated driver using a high performance shaft. I used that shaft/driver combination with very good results that year and the following.
Case in point. If you are finding good results with a certain club that may be outdated, you may want to stay with it or perhaps update the shaft. Going to a professional club fitter also makes a lot of sense and your return on your investment will most likely be significant.

I have used -and loved-my Geek DCT-for about 4 years but although I still play off 5 at age 73 I have been losing distance mainly because the Aldila DVS 60 grammes shaft in the Geek is much stiffer than the Cobra.
I have tested many possible replacements: Ping,Titleist, Mizuno, Callaway(HATE their drivers), Cleveland and Srixon but the Cobra F Speed which I bought after four shots-each one going further and straighter-is as good if not better than my Geek!! For me,anyway, the 55 grammes Aldila shaft seems a perfect match for the enlarged persimmon-like head and the whole thing is extremely well-balanced and very easy to use!
Wow. Traded in 3 old drivers at Golf USA to get the S9-1 with R shaft 10.5. Paid $149 after trades. Normally hit 225-230 off tee before but today at the range was flying 245 and rolling into woods 265+ behind range. 90 percent were straight. Clould see dimple marks on face and many were off center but it didn’t matter. A must buy if you can find one used.

I recently had a cardiac arrest and had a kidney rremoved (2 months ago).
I took out a Taylormade R9 and the Callaway 9.
It was a typical scorching winter day here in Canada -5.
I could not hit the ball to save my life. (The doctors did that). The shop Pro saw my frustration and asked me to hit the Cobra S9.1.
Immediate;y I was hitting the ball straight and far considering the conditions.
Can’t wait till summer when it will get to 35 degrees.
Love my S-9 driver and the “clank”. It is so forgiving and has allowed me to take ten strokes off of an eighteen hole game. I just ordered the matching three wood and I have high expectations of it also. I originally started out with a set of 3400’s and they relieved the pain in my elbow so I just kept on buying Cobras.
I previously had a SZ440 Cobra until they were banned and loved it, then moved to Ping G5, G10 and then G15. The G15 turned out to be a complete disaster for me losing my confidence and swing, hitting 1 fairway in the game and playing with my mind. I was a 5 handicap on the 440 and moved to a 11 on the Pings. I bought a S9-1 on Ebay for $47last week thinking it was cheap and expecting cheap results. Man was I wrong. I got it from Fedex an hour before my game. Not knowing what to expect and having serious negative vibes from my current driver I proceeded to hit the longest straightest drive I have had in years off the first tee. And it continued for the rest of the game shooting an 80 after some 93`s lately. I started working out the draw etc and now my G15 is on Ebay after owning it 2 months… Cobra well done,
Hallo, what model of the s9 1 do you have? If you have the F model I´m interested in which shaft and loft you have in your driver and if the ball goes very high. If you have tried the cobra S2, have compare the S9 1 to the S9 1?

I am around a 7-10 handicap. I purchased the 9.5 degree loft, stiff shaft. Only one word can describe it. GREAT!!!! this an amazing club. You get great distance even on mishits. With my previous driver (mizuno mp600) i was hitting a slight fade about 280 290ish, and occasionally have a wild drive no where near the fairway but once i hit the cobra i hit it straight as an arrow and carryed it 275 with a little draw.. perfect club. Great sound,Great feel,Great everything!!!!!!!!!
Just got the s9 with the Proforce V2 6060 stiff shaft. Whipped a new Lamkin cord on and away we go. Off 2.8. First tee ball took off like a rocket with a five yard draw and stopped 44 yards off flag (348 yds) off tee. No looking back now. Killed it all day and awaiting new cap from the handicapper (66 gross 63 nett, 4 birdies, 1 eagle 13 pars)
Cos they’re so cheap ordered another 3 in the same spec.
Have hit a bunch of drivers the past few years–the TM 07 Burner,the Nike Ignite 10* reg,Nike Summo 9.5 s,and the TM R9 9.5 reg.Even retried some of my older ones-the R580 xd 9.5 s,the Biggest Big 10.0 firm,and my old Cobra 440 sz 9.5 reg.They’rre all pretty decent with my 440sz being the longest.Bought the S9-1 pro reg,Fubuki shaft last week,used at the Galaxy for $121.99 plus tax.Wow!! Back to hitting drives as far as I did 22 years ago at age 40.What a difference.Cobra to me always meant longer and straighter but I like to dabble too often in different drivers trying to find the one.I now have the one.Drives are like cannon shots ant 22-33 yds farther than any above mentioned.Thanks again Cobra-went from last in driving distance in my senior 4 some at about 233 yds to 1st at 255-270.Feels so good again.
Hadn’t played in 8 years, however; I was visiting my best friend in Naples, FL and he plays twice weekly and wanted me to play a round with his Son and himself, tried to excuse my lack of skill not wanting to ruin their outing .. my buddy told me not to fret and we set off for the driving range to practice .. I wiffed several times and he told me to relax and put his used King Cobra S9-1 (senior flex) in my hands .. Wow .. I used to have a wicked slice .. I was straight and true good loft not great but each shot got better until I tired. Played with he and his son and broke 100 .. played with his regular friends 2 days later and ended with even better results. He also let me use his King Cobra irons again I was really enjoying myself. I came home, AZ, got on the computer got King Cobra irons, my driver S9-1, new bag, used Ping Answer putter, shoes and signed up for weekly coaching ($10) I am a golfer again … thanks to King Cobra and my buddy.
